Third accused nabbed in Mumbai gangrape case

The Mumbai Police on Saturday evening arrested a third accused, Siraj Rehman, in connection with the alleged gang rape case of a photojournalist in the city.

The first suspect, Chand Shaikh, was arrested on Friday.

This second accused, Vijay Jadhav, was nabbed this morning.

Chand Shaikh was produced before a local court today, and has been ordered to remain in custody until August 30.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh has expressed confidence that all the remaining accused would also be arrested soon.

A massive hunt is presently on to get hold of the other two perpetrators.

The incident took place on August 22 in Lower Parel area where the 23-year-old woman had gone for an assignment.

 

She was working with an English Magazine as an intern. According to police, the men tied up the friend who was accompanying her and raped the woman.

The victim, who was admitted to Jaslok Hospital, had sustained multiple internal injuries. She is stated to be in a stable condition now.

The Centre has sought a detailed report on the gang rape incident.

Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Friday said that he had spoken to the Commissioner of Police on the gang rape incident in Mumbai, and urged for stringent action.
