United States President Donald Trump has dwelled upon the ongoing Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) negotiations stating that "this will be our last chance."

"Negotiations on DACA have begun. Republicans want to make a deal and Democrats say they want to make a deal," Trump tweeted

"Wouldn't it be great if we could finally, after so many years, solve the DACA puzzle. This will be our last chance, there will never be another opportunity! March 5th," he further wrote.

The Senate on Monday evening started debate on the future of DACA recipients, often called "Dreamers."

The word Dreamer is used to refer to the group of undocumented immigrants, who came to the US as children.

The DREAM Act - an acronym that stands for Development, Relief, and Education of Alien Minors, was introduced in the Senate in 2001. The act gave the name to that generation of immigrants: the DREAMers.

Last year, Trump made an announcement that he was ending the Obama-era DACA program, which offered Dreamers a temporary reprieve from deportation.

Furthermore, he gave Congress until March 5th to craft a legislative fix, setting off a scramble among lawmakers to negotiate a deal to enshrine the program's protections into law, reported the Hill.

However, lawmakers have struggled to reach consensus and be on the same page on the issue, by far.
