Three militants killed in attack on army camp in J&K

Three militants and a civilian were killed, while an army officer injured in a fierce gun battle between militants and army personnel on Wednesday morning near the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, around 160 km north of Srinagar.

An army spokesman said the army foiled attempted suicide attack in which three unidentified militants were killed. He said the trio tried to sneak into the army camp in Tangdar sector firing indiscriminately, in which a civilian, who was working with Military Engineering Service (MES), was killed.

The spokesman added that a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was injured in the encounter.

 

Meanwhile, militant outfit Jaish e Mohammad claimed its three members carried out the attack.

In July this year, the army had foiled two infiltration bids, in which five militants were killed and two army personnel injured in Keran and Tangdar sectors in the district.
