Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is considering removing and downgrading of special envoy positions at the State Department, which would ignite vociferous opposition from some members of the Congress.

This reshuffling of the representative for climate change is also likely to be considered, reported the CNN.

As per a letter written to Senator Bob Corker, the Tennessee Republican who heads the foreign relations committee, Tillerson asserted that he would eliminate or transfer nearly three dozen special envoy positions.

"I believe that the Department will be able to better execute its mission by integrating certain envoys and special representative offices within the regional and functional bureaus," Tillerson wrote Corker, as quoted by the CNN, "and eliminating those that have accomplished or outlived their original purpose."

Special envoys for Syria, Sudan and South Sudan, and the Arctic will be eliminated.

As per the letter, President Donald Trump's administration would also ditch special envoys for Syria, South Sudan and Sudan as well as the official for the Arctic.
