TN Police seize 500 kg of endangered sea cucumber

The Tamil Nadu Police on Tuesday seized 500 kilograms of endangered sea cucumber from Rameswaram-Pudu road forest area.

Acting on a tip off, the police seized the sea cucumber kept in a container here.

No arrests have been made so far as the culprits are absconding.

The search operation is on to nab the accused.

In three separate pre-dawn operations on Sunday, the Marine Police of the Coastal Security Group (CSG) and Mandapam range forest personnel seized 380 kg of endangered sea cucumber, protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, and arrested three persons.

The sea cucumber has been classified as an endangered coral species and their harvest is banned under the Wildlife Protection Act.
