Australian controversial tennis star Bernard Tomic has said he will skip the upcoming Rio Olympics due to his 'extremely busy playing schedule' and 'personal circumstances'.
While insisting that he has always represented his nation passionately and has given his all when wearing the green and gold, the 23-year-old said he would instead play at an ATP World Tour tournament in Mexico during the Olympics, the Guardian reported.
Explaining his inability to feature in Rio Games, Tomic said he had made a commitment to the tournament organisers to defend his title that he has won for the past two years in Bogota before knowing that the date and venue were changed. The tournament will now be held in Mexico.
Last week, Tomic was warned by Australia Olympics chef de mission Kitty Chiller to improve his behaviour after the maverick player gave up on the last point of his first-round match against Italian Fabio Fognini by holding his racquet the wrong way round at the Madrid Masters.
Later, he aggravated the situation with his outspoken comments in Madrid claiming he didn't care about losing the point given the wealth he had earned already in his short career.
Earlier this week, Tomic raised many eyebrows as he pulled out of the Rome Masters after just eight minutes into the opening round game citing illness and excessive heat.
