Australia all-rounder Shane Watson reportedly wants to face up to the final frontier in his Test career by defeating some batting mental demons and hitting big tons against India this summer.
Watson has admitted that he has unfinished business in Australian squad with the experienced all-rounder only able to post four hundreds to date in a 52-Test match career.
With a vacancy sign flashing at the top of the Australian order, retired Test captains Allan Border and Ian Chappell have identified Watson as the perfect candidate to solve the problematic number three position, News.com.au reported.
Since Ricky Ponting moved to number four before retiring at the end of 2012, Australia has unsuccessfully trialled no less than ten different batsmen in the key number three top-order position.
Watson has enjoyed the most success, scoring two hundreds and four fifties from 19 innings at an average of 41.61. He said that individually, his batting in general, especially in Test cricket, is something he has not been able to consistently nail over his whole career.
He added that he has always done everything he possibly could to continue to try and get the best out of himself, but still feels that he is trying to find the perfect blend of his whole game.
The all-rounder said that the mental side of things is hugely important in terms of being consistent and scoring the big scores that the great players throughout the world have been able to do really consistently throughout their careers.
Watson said that that is one of the big things he has been working on is to get his technique to a stage where there's less ways to be exposed but also mentally to be able to find ways to bat for longer periods of time.
Watson said that wherever one bats, one wants to be able to bat for long periods of time and score big hundreds and admitted that that is something he hasn't done in his career and it's a burning ambition inside of him to be able to nail that as well as he possibly could.
