Sixty Indian scholars have been awarded the Australian Government's prestigious Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships for 2015.

Australian High Commissioner Patrick Suckling today welcomed the announcement, which he said was a testament to the talent of the Indian students.

"I congratulate the successful recipients - Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships are highly competitive awards," he said.

"The fact that 60 Indians were selected for this award is a testament to the talents in this country. It is also pleasing to see that the numbers of Indians have increased from 40 recipients in 2014."

The Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships provide significant support for the top students and faculty around the world to use Australia's world class research infrastructure, undertake professional development and collaborate with leading academics in their field.

A total of 528 Endeavour scholarships have been offered to international students this year and 154 to Australians to undertake study and research overseas. This includes three Australians who will be traveling to India in 2015.

"The Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships facilitate knowledge sharing, strengthen mutual understanding between Indian and Australian scholars and build international networks, which continue long after the scholars have returned to India," Mr.Suckling said.

"This serves to reinforce our strong and enduring bilateral relations with India."

The recipients will undertake study or research at vocational, post-graduate, and post-doctoral level or undertake professional development at some of Australia's most prestigious universities across a broad range of academic fields.

Applications for the 2016 Endeavour Scholarship and Fellowship round will open in April 2015.
