Top U.S. Senators have criticized the U.S.-Russia agreement to disarm Syria of its chemical weapons, calling it 'meaningless'.
John McCain and Lindsey Graham said that the agreement sends the wrong signal to Iran, which is suspected of building a nuclear weapon.
According to Fox News, the Republican senators said the agreement reached by Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is 'toothless' without the U.N. Security Council Resolution.
The resolution threatens the use of force should Syrian President Bashar al-Assad fail to comply.
The United States and Russia reached the agreement to secure and destroy Syria's chemical weapons by mid-2014.
The senators said that Assad will use the months and months given to him to delay and deceive the world using every trick in Saddam Hussein's playbook.
The two reiterated their position that the United States should arm Assad opposition forces in the roughly two-year-long civil war, the report added.
