Traffic advisory circualted as work to redevelop Chandni Chowk underway

A traffic advisory has been circulated in lieu of Chandni Chowk redevelopment work being undertaken by the Public Works Department (PWD), of the Government of National Capital Territory (GNCT) of Delhi with effect from June 22.

As a first step, Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) ducts shall be laid out underground for utility cables such as power and telephones.

In order to minimize inconvenience to traders, residents and visitors, the RCC ducting work will be carried out in six phases of about one month each.

In the first phase, ducts will be laid out in the Northern carriageway from Fatehpuri Mosque to Town Hall.

 

During this period, the Northern carriageway will be blocked by barricading the above stretch with effect from June 22.

A lane of 2.5m width will be provided next to the central verge for the movement of light vehicles such as cars, autos, two wheelers and for rickshaws (both, pedal as well as battery operated).

For pedestrian movement, apart from the approaches from the footpath at the ends of the barricading, at least two crossover points will be made available for approaching the shops from the Southern carriageway.

There will total restriction for LMVs and HTVs on the 2.5m lane next to the central verge in the Northern Carriageway.

Other vehicular restrictions shall be as follows:

1.There will be no stopping, waiting, loading and unloading in the 2.5m carriageway for any class of

vehicles and for hand drawn carts (hath-thela).

2. Compulsory left turn on Church Mission Road for traffic coming out of Khari Baoli.

3. Entry on Church Mission Road from SP Mukherjee Marg to be restricted to local traffic upto Baghdwar Road.

4. Church Mission Road will be 'One-Way' from Fatehpuri to Baghdwar T-point.

Co-operation is solicited from the Chandni Chowk Vyapar Mandal, Market Associations, Resident's Associations and from the general public to bear with the temporary inconvenience in the interest of restoring Chandni Chowk to its historic glory.

Advisory traffic signages at appropriate locations have been placed for the guidance of the motorists and adequate traffic staff has been deployed to ensure smooth and uninterrupted flow of traffic.

Motorists are advised to follow the diversions and obey instructions of the traffic policemen on duty.
