Traffic gridlock in Dhaka as Sheikh Hasina opens 'Police Plaza'

Bangladesh capital Dhaka suffered from a massive traffic gridlock on Thursday as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated 'Police Plaza' in the city's Gulshan area.

According to the Daily Star, vehicles were stationed bumper to bumper across most parts of Dhaka, as Hasina inaugurated thenewly-built commercial building of Bangladesh Police Welfare Trust.

Sheikh Hasina unveiled a plaque on the Ground Floor of the Plaza in the presence of State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan and Police Chief Shahidul Haque.

The multi-storied commercial building, jointly built by Bangladesh Police Welfare Trust and Concord Group at Gulshan-1, is a centrally air-conditioned shopping complex and offices equipped with modern facilities.

 

The 12-storey building having the foundation of 16-storey one has been built on nearly one acre of land with the Concord Engineers and Construction Limited as the constructing firm.

The Plaza consists of two towers-Tower 1 and Tower 2 -- having three basements with parking facilities for 241 vehicles.

The first five floors of the building is the shopping complex while the floors from sixth to twelfth would be used for commercial purpose as offices.

Ministers, members of diplomatic corps, secretaries, political and cultural personalities and people from various professions attended the function.
