Tribal women launched an anti-liquor campaign on Tuesday to make their village in the Chhota Udaipur district in Gujarat hooch free.

The women went on a rampage, destroying material used to produce country-made liquor in the villages.

A tribal anti-liquor activist, Jyotsnaben, said the campaign has been launched to make the state addiction-free as they also face acute poverty.

"We, all women of the village, have come together to break the hooch den of the village. We are facing a harrowing time as our children ask for money to buy liquor but we don't have money even to buy food. We didn't even celebrate Diwali due to this. We don't want liquor in our village. Police also don't take any measures to stop this problem," said Jyotsnaben.

The consumption and manufacture of alcohol is illegal in Gujarat.
