Tribal women and others staged a demonstration here on Monday to protest the arrest of their relatives by security forces last week.
According to The Dawn, the protesters, holding black flags and banners inscribed with slogans, blocked Landi Kotal-Torkhum bypass, criticised the unlawful raids and demanded the release of the relatives.
The protesters alleged that security forces unlawfully raided their houses without any prior notice and arrested the male members of families without furnishing any arrest warrants.
The women protesters were unhappy with the security forces' forceful entry to rooms of the houses, saying that it was a violation of the strict tribal code of veil (purdah).
They asserted that the families did not have any weapons, explosive materials or any other suspicious items. The male members have been kept in captivity for a week now.
The protesters agreed to end their protests and clear the road only after they were assured by the administration officials that they would take the matter up with the security officials of Frontier Corps.
