A musical soiree was recently organized at the Rabindra Centenary Hall here on the occasion of the 116th birth
anniversary of revolutionary poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Cultural Minister Bhanulal Saha and Higher Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty were among those present during the programme held on May 25. They paid floral tributes to the poet along with hundreds of school students and teachers.
Nazrul geeti or songs of Nazrul, dance from his famous plays and poetry recitation were the highlight of the event, which stirred the audience and Nazrul enthusiasts.
Kazi Nazrul Islam enriched all spheres of Bengali culture-literature, music, plays and films.

Nazrul Islam, the rebel poet of Bengali literature, was born on May 25, 1899, at Churulia in the erstwhile colonial Bengal Presidency (now in West Bengal).
Through his poems, Nazrul had inspired people to fight against injustice and repression during the British colonial rule.
