The Congress party on Sunday accused Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar of being corrupt, alleging that the Communist Party of India-Marxist politburo member was siphoning off public money.
"[Manik Sarkar is] the kingpin and centre of corruption. He is a power monger and allows corruption in order to stay in power," Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman told the media.
"It is our duty as the opposition to raise all these issues and take them to people's consciousness so that they can raise their voice against this corrupt government," he added.
Earlier, the Congress took to the streets, protesting against the alleged corruption in the state by a section of officials in collusion with CPI-M cadres.
They had also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to order a CBI probe into the alleged corruption in various Central government flagship schemes.
