Tripura Director General of Police K Nagaraj, hailing the operations by Bangladesh security forces against militants on its soil, on Monday stated that the action of India's neighbour has helped bring peace to the state.
"Bangladesh security forces have been carrying operations in clearing militant camps. We came to know that militants do not get [their] support like earlier," Nagaraj told the media.
"It has been our effort to root extremism out from Tripura. We also want it to end across the border and working towards that direction," he added.
According to Nagaraj, militant-related incidents in Tripura had come down in 2014.
"There were only a few [militant-related] incidents in the last few months. There has been a reduction in the number of militant attacks and kidnappings [in 2014] as compared to 2013," he said.
According to reports, the Bangladesh Army, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) had recently conducted operations in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of the People's Republic and destroyed several camps belonging to Indian insurgency groups, seizing large amounts of arms and ammunition.
