Tripura, PGCIL sign MoU for power grid modernization

The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) for the construction of transmission lines.

"After completion of the project, transmission loss of electricity would be decreased substantially by some five percent from the present average of 35 to 40 percent beside the quality of supply of power would be increased significantly," said PGCIL chairman and managing director R.N. Nayak.

"The project is unique as along with the transmission line there shall be dedicated overhead OFC which will help in solving the proble of poor tele-connectivity in the region," he added.

 

According to reports, the MoU is worth Rs 1,372.20 crore.

Under the World Bank-aided project, high power transmission lines will be erected across over 3,488 kilometres, modernising the existing transmission system in the North East.

The project is likely to be completed within three years time.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and state Power Minister Manik De were also present during the signing of the MoU.
