Thousands of Christians gathered in Don Bosco church in Agartala, to celebrate Christmas on Thursday.
The mass prayed with the theme 'Jesus Christ savior of the world'and for bringing down the suffering of people.
A special prayer was also done for those who lost their life in the militant attack in the neighboring Assam state.
Devotees said that the spirit of Christmas strengthens the values of brotherhood, love, tolerance and reminds the message of Lord Jesus Christ to promote peace, unity and harmony in society and inspire on the path of mutual understanding for the overall development of mankind.
"We celebrate Christmas every year but now it is no more only a festival but people from tribal, non-tribal community and from Hindu and Muslim religion celebrate this festival throughout the night and shall continue till tomorrow. I hope that people from all community and religions get together in Tripura as well as the whole country and work for mankind," said a devotee Jogendra Debbarma.

Despite of the chilly night, people including a good number of youths turned out for the day and heard the priest speak inside the cathedral which is one of the biggest churches in Tripura.
Along with the Christians people from other religion also participated in the celebration.
The area was echoing with the carol sang in the church right from the evening praising the Lord and the people celebrated the day with singing, dancing and merrymaking.
Special prayers and musical programs from Thursday midnight were conducted during the annual Christmas Eve Midnight Mass here.
