Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaderVenkaiah Naidu on Monday said that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) stormed to majority in Telangana on the basis of people's sentiments.

Naidu was speaking while addressing a news conference in Hyderabad.

"In the state of Telangana, people seem to have voted on the basis of sentiment because TRS is identified with the Telangana movement. They thought one opportunity should be given to TRS. That has helped the TRS. BJP, in spite of the fact that we sincerely supported the bill, we did not get the expected number of seats. We accept the mandate of the people. The Congress and TDP and BJP among themselves have shared the anti-TRS votes, and TRS became a beneficiary under that. Whatever it is, people's mandate is supreme," said Naidu.

Naidu also credited Narendra Modi for creating a hope to move ahead by winning with a landslide victory in the general election that led to what he called, ' complete wipeout' of the Congress.

"Narendra Modi has successfully created a hope among the people that they can come out of this despair and country can move forward. This mandate has cast a greater responsibility on our shoulders. There cannot be any alibis because we have a comfortable majority on our own. And the unprecedented mandate for restructuring the model of governance, which has earlier failed in India. We will definitely try to fulfill the promises made," he added.
