President-elect Donald Trump has questioned as to why the United States should continue to abide by its long-standing position that Taiwan is part of "one China" policy.

"I fully understand the 'one China' policy, but I don't know why we have to be bound by a 'one China' policy unless we make a deal with China having to do with other things, including trade," CNN quoted Trump, as saying on a local news channel.

Trump's remark comes weeks after he had taken a congratulatory call from the President of Taiwan which had angered the Chinese officials.

Trump said the U.S. is being hurt very badly by China with devaluation.

He said that China was taxing the U.S. heavily at the borders which is quite contrast to Washington's stand.

The President-elect said that Chinese should not be building a massive fortress in the middle of the South China Sea.

Asserting that China was not helping the U.S. at all with regard to North Korea, Trump insisted that he won't falter to anger Beijing unless the country comes to the bargaining table on trade and severs ties with North Korea.

"You have North Korea. You have nuclear weapons, and China could solve that problem, and they're not helping us at all," Trump said.
