United States President Donald Trump has targeted ESPN's suspended host Jemele Hill by stating that she is the reason why the network's ratings "tanked".

Trump in a tweet stated, "With Jemele Hill at the mike, it is no wonder ESPN ratings have "tanked," in fact, tanked so badly it is the talk of the industry!"

ESPN had suspended host Jemele Hill for two weeks due to "a second violation of our social media guidelines," the network announced on Monday afternoon.

"In the aftermath, all employees were reminded of how individual tweets may reflect negatively on ESPN and that such actions would have consequences. Hence this decision," the statement added.

The "Sports Center" anchor in a tweet urged fans to boycott Dallas Cowboys advertisers. The Cowboys have been told they must stand for the national anthem.

Last month, in a series of tweets, Hill described Trump as a "white supremacist" and a "bigot."

The White House called for Hill to be fired after that incident, saying her tweets were "outrageous.
