At least 86 people were killed and dozens injured in twin explosions that struck a road junction in the centre of Turkish capital Ankara on Saturday.

The explosions were a "terrorist attack" carried out by a suicide bomber outside Ankara's main train station. The attack was the deadliest in the city's history, and has ratcheted up tensions ahead of Turkey's November 1 snap elections.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan condemned the attack and said that the attack targets the unity, togetherness, brotherhood of the nation.

"Like other terror attacks, the one at the Ankara train station targets our unity, togetherness, brotherhood and future," President Tayyip Erdogan said in a statement.
