After declining any compensation or benefits for the past three years, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey took home USD 1.40 in salary last year.
As Cnet reports, it was the first time Dorsey took the salary since his return to the microblogging site in 2015. He declined all compensation in the previous years for Twitter's long-term value creation potential.
His salary comes out to one cent for each of the 140 characters Twitter users were previously allowed to include in tweets.
By that calculation, in the next year, Dorsey might receive a doubled salary of USD 2.80 as the character limit of tweets has been extended to 280 characters.
Dorsey is not the only top executive to take home the symbolic salary. Other top tech chiefs who have taken home minimal executive paychecks include Apple's Steve Jobs, Google's Eric Schmidt, Sergey Brin, and Larry Page, and Oracle's Larry Ellison, among others.
