'Sonic the Hedgehog' game series has just turned 27 and the Twitterverse cannot keep calm.
The video game franchise created by Sega was first launched on June 23, 1991. It features a series of speed-based platform games.
Numerous birthday messages for the franchise are still pouring in on Twitter.
The official handle of Mega Man (a Japanese video game franchise) tweeted, "Happy Birthday, @sonic_hedgehog! From one blue hero to another, keep on foiling that evil doctor's plans. Run, Sonic! For everlasting peace!"
A sonic fan, tweeted, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONIC

Sonic, is an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog who is capable of reaching the speed of sound. In the game Sonic, along with some of his friends, such as Tails, Amy, and Knuckles fights to stop the antagonist Doctor Eggman from dominating the world.
