Two cannon have been raised from the wreck of a ship named the Queen Anne's Revenge off the North Carolina coast on Thursday.

A dive expedition at the site this month had hoped to bring up eight cannon, but efforts were hampered by bad weather until Thursday, Fox News reported.

There's a 450,000-dollar effort underway to remove all the artifacts from the ship by the end of next year. An extended dive expedition is planned this fall.

Blackbeard captured a French slave ship and renamed it Queen Anne's Revenge in 1717.

Volunteers with the Royal Navy killed Blackbeard in Ocracoke Inlet the following year, five months after the ship sank.
