Afghan security forces have reportedly arrested two senior leaders of the Haqqani militant network.

According to the BBC, Afghan officials confirmed that security forces captured Anas Haqqani- the son of the network's founder, and Haqqani commander Hafiz Rashid late on Tuesday in Afghanistan.

Afghan NDS intelligence officials said that Anas Haqqani is known to have played a prominent role in the network's strategy and fund-raising.

Intelligence officials believe that Anas Haqqani was a pro in computing and led the network's social media propaganda efforts.

Meanwhile, Hafiz Rashid is said to be a senior military commander whose job was to train and equip suicide bombers.

NDS spokesman Haseeb Sediqi said that the intelligence was hoping that these two arrests would have direct consequences on the network and their centre of command.
