The Jharkhand Police has arrested two Maoists from Khunti district and recovered cash from them.
The left wing extremists were arrested on Thursday while en route to delivering extortion money to the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI). The Maoists had allegedly collected the money by threatening local traders, businessmen and shopkeepers.
"We received a tip off about the operation and a special police team was constituted. They reached the destination to where the money was being delivered and searched the area, upon which, two men were caught escaping on a motorcycle. We recovered Rs. 12.7 lakh from one of the accused, Tinku, and Rs. 5.35 lakhs from Manoj Lugun, the other. We also recovered PLFI receipts from them," said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Khunti district, Deepak Sharma..
Sharma further said that the Maoists were carrying no arms.
