Two media journals presented with IPI awards

'Hindustan Times' and 'The Week' were on Friday presented the prestigious International Press Institute (IPI)-India Award for Excellence in Journalism 2014 for outstanding journalistic work.

Minister of State for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar, who presented the award to Sanjoy Narayan, Editor-in-Chief of Hindustan Times, and Tariq Bhat of The Week, at a ceremony at the Constitution Club here this evening, congratulated the winners.

Javadekar said such occasions are recognition of 'journalism of commitment'.

"We are appreciating journalism and journalism for a cause, the cause to take society forward, and this is what we are aiming at," he said while speaking at the event.

 

Javadekar, who earlier held the Information and Broadcasting portfolio, while talking about the two award winning stories highlighted the hardships faced by women in the country.

Several eminent media personalities and dignitaries including former external affairs minister K. Natwar Singh were among those present on the occasion.
