The man who hijacked a bus in western Norway has reportedly slaughtered three people on board.

A man, in his 50s, is of foreign origin and has been arrested by the Norwegian police.

According to the BBC, the victims include one woman and two men, including the bus driver.

The incidence was earlier reported as a traffic accident, however, when the firefighters reached the scene, they overpowered the suspect.

The attack took place on a remote mountain road near Ardal, about 220km north-west of Oslo.

Police officer Joern Lasse Foerde Refsnes said that there was no further information about any other victim other than the three.

An eye-witness, Leif, revealed that the suspect's bus was on the side of the road, so they stopped their car and ran over, and saw the dark-skinned man inside the bus moving around with a knife in his hand.

Police said that the motive for the attack is not immediately clear and there nothing to suggest the victims were known to the attacker, the report added.
