Two of the four Indians detained in ISIS-controlled territory in Libya have been released, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
"Four Indians abducted in Libya - I am happy we have been able to secure the release of Lakshmikant and Vijay Kumar. Trying for other two," Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj said on twitter.
The freed Indians have been brought back safely to the University of Sirte, while efforts are on to bring back the remaining two.
"Welcome news from Libya. 2 of the 4 detained Indians brought back safely to University of Sirte. Our efforts continue for the remaining two," added MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup.
The two men were reportedly detained at a checkpoint about 50 km outside Sirte town on Wednesday while on their way back to India.
They had been working at the Sirte University and have been in Libya for over a year, add reports.
