Two Maoists were gunned down in an encounter between the police and the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a splinter group of the Communist party of India Maoist (CPI-M) in Simdega.
The encounter also left three other PLFI members injured, who were later arrested.
The police also recovered seven rifles, three country-made pistols, 60 live cartridges, some photographs and pamphlets from the Maoists.
After reportedly receiving a tip off that the PLFI area commander Barud Gop was camping in the area, the police, along with a CRPF team surrounded the Maoists' camp.
Apprehending police action, the Naxals started firing at the policemen. After intense firing between the two groups, one of the ultras died on the spot, another was injured and the rest tried to flee.
The police, however, arrested the fleeing Maoists.
