Two ships to carry last Yemen evacuees to Kochi port today

A total of 475 people rescued from war-torn Yemen will arrive via two passenger ships, MV Kavaratti and MV Corals, at the Cochin Port Trust Jetty on Saturday.

It will be the last leg of the evacuation process. Both the ships are likely to arrive by 2 pm today.

The ship would be escorted by a naval warship INS Tir till Kochi harbour after which they would be led into their respective berths by Fast Interceptor Crafts (FIC) of the Southern Naval Command.

MV Corals is carrying 318 evacuees in total, which includes 46 Indians and 272 Bangladeshis, while MV Kavaratti has 166 evacuees, which include 27 Indians, 64 Bangladeshis and 75 Yemenis of Indian-origin.

 

Cochin Port Trust has made all the necessary arrangements for the smooth passage of passengers and for the emigration formalities.

Officials from Bangladesh Government are also in the town to coordinate onward travel of Bangladeshi Nationals.
