As a result of torrential rain, all schools till class five will today remain closed in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand.

Chief Minister Harish Rawat yesterday assured the people of safety and said that his government is taking all necessary precautions to tackle any untoward incident.

Rawat told ANI, "The water level in river Ganga is increasing. And the same is happening with other rivers as well. We are alert and totally vigilant."

"The administration is fully geared up to tackle any situation. I would like to give my assurance to the people of the state and the country that we are taking all precautions to safeguard the lives of people," he added.

Incessant rainfall has also disrupted electricity and drinking water supply at many places across the state.

Three persons were killed in Uttarakhand as heavy rains lashed the state earlier on Saturday after a bus tumbled into a local stream in near Haldwani area after the water level in the stream increased due to torrential rains.
