Even as the United Nations quickly retracted from its statement that it will continue to monitor the situation in Kashmir Valley, Janata Dal (United) leader K.C. Tyagi on Friday said due to weakness of the Indian Government, Pakistan has successfully internationalised the Kashmir issue, and thus, India needs to expedite its diplomatic efforts.
"Though the UN has backtracked from its statement, the statement is serious. Due to weakness of the Indian Government, Pakistan has successfully internationalised the Kashmir issue. The Government of India should further intensify its diplomatic efforts," Tyagi told ANI.
Deputy spokesperson for United Nations Secretary General Farhan Haq said the U.N. would continue to monitor the situation through its monitoring group on the ground, United Nations Military Observers in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP).But the statement was retracted by the spokesperson for Secretary General the next day.
A clarification was issued by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's spokesman Stephane Dujarric on August 2, a day after Haq made the statement.
Reacting sharply to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's statement that Kashmir is not an internal issue, Tyagi said, "Before Nawaz Sharif, many rulers of Pakistan have seen such a dream. Kashmir is a part of India and the Centre and the state government should address the prevailing anger and restlessness among the Kashmiris, but this is our internal matter."
Reacting to Sharif's declaration that Kashmir is the main pillar of Pakistan's foreign policy, he said, "Kashmir is the crown of India's map and Pakistan will never succeed in its ulterior motive. They have tested defeat many times, and thus, they should stop dreaming of Kashmir."
When told that Pakistan Interior Minister had said that freedom struggle in Kashmir should not be overlooked, Tyagi said, "Not Kashmiris, but the people of PoK, Baluchistan, N-W Frontier and Sindh want freedom. Pakistan will disintegrate into pieces once the wind of freedom sweeps through it."
Reacting to Home Minister Rajnath Singh's speech that terrorists should not be glorified, Tyagi said, "I agree with the statement of Rajnath Singh that people involved in terrorism can't be martyrs, the Pakistan Government's perspective is wrong."
Commenting of the Delhi High Court's verdict that the Lieutenant Governor (L-G) is "administrative head" of the National Capital Territory (NCT), he said: "The AAP government is elected by the people of Delhi, and until Delhi gets the status of full state, it will be victim of the Centre and bureaucrats. I want all parties to come together to help Delhi get the status of a full state."
Hailing the Hyderabad Police's action against BJP MLA T. Raja Singh for allegedly supporting the assault on Dalit men in Gujarat's Una town, he said, "The Gujarat Government was engaged in atrocities on Dalits in the name of cow protection. I support the action taken against the MLA."
The Mangalhat Police on Thursday registered a case against Raja Singh.
Singh had put a video on his Facebook page overtly supporting the Gau Rakshak Samiti (Cow Protection Committee) workers who thrashed Dalits, who were skinning a dead cow in Una, Gujarat.
"I support the beating of Dalits whoever slaughter cows to consume its meat...I also support those who taught them a lesson," Singh said in his two-and-half minute video, uploaded on July 30.
