U.S-based CRS report says Pakistan a 'haven' for terror groups

A United States Congressional research report has described Pakistan as a "haven" for several Islamist terror groups, and claimed that successive governments have widely supported some outfits as proxies in the country's historical conflicts with its neighbours.

Media said that the Independent US Congressional Research Service's (CRS) latest report on Pakistan also notes that the nation's security forces were seen by many independent analysts to be too willing to differentiate between good and bad Islamist outfits, maintaining supportive relations with Afghan insurgents and anti-India militant groups operating from Pakistani territory.

The CRS report is not an official report of the U.S. Congress, but was prepared by eminent experts on the issue to apprise the lawmakers of the current situation in Pakistan.
