The Trump Administration has submitted a notice to the United Nations in which it has formally announced its intent to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement even as it pledges to stay engaged on the issue of climate change.

"The United States supports a balanced approach to climate policy that lowers emissions while promoting economic growth and ensuring energy security," CNN quoted the State Department statement, as saying.

"We will continue to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions through innovation and technology breakthroughs and work with other countries to help them access and use fossil fuels more cleanly and efficiently and deploy renewable and other clean energy sources, given the importance of energy access and security in many nationally determined contributions," the statement added.

However, the State Department indicated that the Trump Administration has plans to participate in a major international climate conference in November.

U.S. President Donald Trump on June 1 announced his decision to withdraw from Paris Agreement, citing concerns about the accord's threat to the U.S. economy as a main reason for the withdrawal.

"The cost to the economy at this time (by 2040) would be close to three trillion U.S. dollars in lost GDP and 6.5 million industrial jobs," Trump had said.

Currently, all but two nations -- Syria and Nicaragua -- are signatories to the accord.

The latest move by Trump administration confirms U.S. President Trump decision of withdrawing from teh Paris climate deal but the actual withdrawal process will prove lengthier and cannot be initiated until 2019 at the earliest. In his first budget request, Trump also proposed a 31 percent reduction in funding the U.S. Environment Protection Agency.
