The United States has launched 25 new airstrikes in Iraq and Syria against Islamic State (IS) militants on Friday and Saturday hitting IS jihadists and their oil infrastructure, says the U.S. military.

The U.S. Central Command said that 12 out of 15 airstrikes in Syria were aimed at destroying the oil infrastructure.

According to News24, five airstrikes west of the strategic Mosul Dam in Iraq destroyed vehicles and damaged a building under IS control.

IS extremists control swaths of northwest Iraq and eastern Syria that is home to Syria's main oilfields.

Three airstrikes hit the IS fighting positions near Syrian town of Kobane and a military camp in Raqqa province.
