The United States military claimed on Sunday that it has dropped medical supplies, arms and ammunition to Kurdish fighters who are fighting against Islamic State (IS) militants to hold the Syrian border town of Kobani.

The U.S. Central Command said that the airdrops were followed by U.S. and coalition airstrikes in and around Kobani, reported Fox News.

The Central Command also said that airdrops were made in order to enable continued resistance to IS attacks and efforts to take full control of Kobani town.

There are indications that airstrikes by the international coalition led by the U.S. has slowed IS advances into the city, killed hundreds of their militants and destroyed scores of their combat equipment and fighting positions, according to the U.S. Central Command.
