Security at the United States facilities around the world has been stepped up ahead of the release of a report which is expected to reveal the details of the CIA's campaign against al-Qaeda in the aftermath of 9/11 and its harsh interrogations, said the White House.
A spokesman said that the embassies and other sites were taking precautions due to indications of "greater risks".
A 480-pages summary of the Senate report is expected to be released today, reported the BBC.
However, publication in Washington has been delayed due to discussions about what should be made public.
U.S. President Barack Obama halted the CIA interrogation programme in 2009 and acknowledged the methods amounted to torture.
