The United States has sent 130 additional military advisers to Northern Iraq to review the humanitarian situation in the Kurdish region, says the U.S. Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel.

According to the BBC, a U.S. defence official said that the U.S. forces would not be engaged in the conflict.

The U.S. has been launching airstrikes against the Islamic State militants in Northern Iraq.

Residents in the conflicted areas of Iraq have been forced to flee their homes due to violence.

Hagel said in a statement that the advisers would give a detailed review of where the U.S. could help.
