The United States troops in Afghanistan have reportedly started destroying their equipment and selling the scrap as they prepare to withdraw from the war-torn nation post-2014.
According to RT America, the reason behind scrapping the majority of its equipment includes fears of local insurgents trying to make bombs and other weapons, and high transportation costs involved in returning the items to the U.S.
Equipments like armored vehicles, trucks, blast walls, rubber and metal pulled from tanks, and even air conditioners, treadmills, and office appliances are being destroyed, the report added.
Afghans claimed that even non-weapons related items, such as furniture and appliances, are being destroyed, which could have been used to improve the lives of the local people.
President Hamid Karzai has opposed the destruction of all equipments and hardware that can be of use by the Afghan security forces.
