U2 singer Bono was bestowed with France's highest cultural honour for his contribution to music and dedication to humanitarian work in Paris.
French Culture Minister Aurelie Filippetti presented the musician with the Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters, the BBC reported.
Bono, who credited the award to his band, said that he has got the biggest mouth and the loudest voice but the music the group makes comes from each other.
Filippetti praised the singer by asserting that the star committed himself and dedicated his fame and career to wage some of the greatest wars of our time.
Filippetti added that Bono did not do the deed for charity's sake but in the name of justice.
Bono was previously awarded France's Legion of Honor in 2003.
