After being banned in Delhi and thrown out of Netherlands, Uber is now also facing a ban in Spain and Thailand, for operating unlicensed and uninsured taxi services, in a fresh spate of clampdowns on the web-based taxi company.
Following a complaint filed by the Madrid Taxi Association, a Madrid judge has directed Uber to cease all activities in Spain because its drivers are unregistered and hence, pose unfair competition to existing taxi services, reported The Verge.
Authorities in Thailand have also asked Uber to halt services after it deemed its operation of unlicensed and uninsured taxi services to be unlawful. The taxi service has been asked to suspend operations until it starts using proper accredited drivers instead of private cars.
India had already instituted a ban on Uber in Delhi following the rape of a female passenger but is now planning to broaden the prohibition and ask all state governments to enforce it.
Uber has also been sued by the City of Portland for not complying with its licensing laws.
