The Mathura Police on Sunday confirmed that the car that was allegedly used by the accused in the Uber cab rape case has been handed over to the Delhi Police, adding that the search for the perpetrator was on.
"We have not received any official information. I have only got to know via the media that a woman had been raped in New Delhi in which the accused is a resident of this city," Mathura Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manjil Saini told ANI.
"The Delhi Police is here with regard to that case and is currently searching for the accused. The car in which the incident occurred belongs to the accused, which has been recovered. The car has now been handed over to the Delhi Police," she added.
Meanwhile, media reports state that the Delhi Police has put out a cash prize of Rs. one lakh for providing information about the accused.
According to reports, a 27-year-old girl was raped by a taxi driver of the radio-cab company Uber Cab in the national capital on Friday. The victim, who works in a finance company in Gurgaon, had hired the taxi to go back to her home in Northwest Delhi.
