Uber has reportedly warned its drivers against participating in taxi protests in the city of Hangzhou in east China or risk having their contracts cancelled.
The taxi-hailing service, in a message sent to its drivers, said that it will use GPS coordinates to check if the drivers are attending the protests, staged by taxi drivers against the rise of illegal competition in China, reported The Verge.
Uber said that the harsh stance was aimed at maintaining social order.
The news came as the firm said that it is working to capitalise on the massive Chinese market.
