After reports emerged that more than 27,000 people suspected of illegally entering the country have been arrested over the last three years, a senior member of British Parliament, Keith Vaz, has warned that the UK's border is not secure.

According to media reports, the arrests of those illegally entering the UK have steadily increased, rising from 7,700 in 2013 to 9,600 in 2015.

Labour MP Keith Vaz, chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee, said that the figures were at odds with what the government claims of "water-tight security at our borders" and instead showed they are not secure, reports the Nation.

As per the first quarter of this year, the total number is 27,800.

The number, however, does not include those detained at ports or airports, or those arrested after outstaying what their visa allowed.

Meanwhile, the Home Office has said that action would be taken to remove those who have no right to remain in the country.
