The military in the UK is planning to set up new bases in the Middle East to better combat the extremist militant group IS.
According to The Independent, an infantry battalion could be sent to al-Minhad in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and a training post in Oman could also be used.
The British Royal Navy is hopeful that the port in Bahrain could be expanded to accommodate more sailors and bigger warships.
A defence force said that an infantry battalion based in al-Minhad was training alongside the Emirates.
Professor Michael Clarke, director of the Royal United Services Institute think-tank, said that the move could be seen as UK military's efforts to increase its presence in the region in the wake of withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan.
