UK political leaders have reportedly hailed Wimbledon champion Andy Murray for 'hitting the nail on the head' for his comments urging politicians to work together for the benefit of the country.
According to The Scotsman, Murray urged UK Prime Minister David Cameron, his deputy Nick Clegg, Labour leader Ed Miliband and SNP Westminster leader Angus Robertson to stop squabbling and work together, in Downing Street after his historic win at Wimbledon in July.
The report said that Clegg revealed the conversation at a dinner in Scotland on Thursday, following which, many political leaders said that Murray had 'hit the nail on the head', even if he made the comment in jest.
Stating that Murray might have struck a chord with voters, political leader Willie Rennie said that Murray is right in urging the leaders to work together, adding that a little less anger and a little more objective analysis is not a bad thing to have.
However, Rennie insisted that despite having heated political differences, the politicians are all human beings and have good personal relationships.
Murray has previously revealed he is wary of entering political debate, the report added.
