Proprietor John Sellers and sister Emma Smalley, who run Temporary Measure in Keswick, Cumbria have been accused of insulting customers or refusing to talk to them.
However, the duo has shrugged off the criticism.
Smalley said that this isn't America where everything is happy, clappy and corportate, as they are "notherners", the Daily Star reported.
The cafe has received scathing reviews on the TripAdvisor website, where visitors have complained of hostile staff and an unwelcoming atmosphere.
One reviewer wrote that the place has great food and presentation, but the service is very poor - as if they didn't exist.
