In an attempt to take on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the United Nations Security Council has adopted a binding resolution that compels states to prevent their nationals from joining the ranks of the militant group in Iraq and Syria, a report said.

United States President Barack Obama chaired the session and said that the states must prevent the recruitment and financing of foreign fighters, reported the BBC. The US-drafted resolution was adopted unanimously.

Obama also called for a united action against the group to dismantle the "network of death.
